Programme of Study

The Master of Science in Instructional Design and Technology (MSc IDT) prepares professionals to design, develop and evaluate courses, employing learning theories, instructional and strategies. The programme utilizes emerging instructional technologies with interactive learning tools and the management of learning environments.

 

Trimester I 2012/2013

 

EDID6501-Learning Theory and Instructional Design 
This course provided the opportunity to compare and contrast learning theories and models. I was given the opportunity to compare and contrast the work of prominent theorists while analysing the role of the learner and the facilitator in the teaching/learning process.

EDID6503-Instructional Design Theories, Models and Strategies 
The course introduces students to  various instructional design models and theories and various  design strategies that can be applied in various educational settings and workplaces.

EDID6505-Systems Approach to Designing Instructional Materials 
This course introduces students to the processes and techniques and the role of instructional designers such as conducting needs assessments, designing materials and developing evaluation instruments.

EDID6504-Programme Evaluation and Course Assessment Methods 
This course is designed to equip students with the knowledge, skills and competencies necessary to effectively design and implement programme evaluation such as data analysis, preparation of programme evaluation reports, and ethical issues .

EDID6502-Analyzing Human Performance
This course will allow students to examine the different models of needs analysis and performance analysis and how to employ appropriate analysis approaches for enhancing human performance and professional knowledge and skills.

EDID6506-Issues, Trends, Innovations and Research in Instructional Design, Instructional Technology and Distance Education
The course is designed to provide students with an overview of the fields of instructional design, instructional technology and distance education and the current trends and issues  exploring some of the innovations and latest research practices in these fields.

Trimester I 2015/2016

 

EDID6508-Developing Instructional Media 
This course allows students to employ a variety of media tools to enhance learning. This will include the creation of video scripts, audio scripts, simple animations, podcasts, vodcasts, websites and other web media development tools.

EDID6509-Designing Learning and Performance Solutions 
This course allows students to design a problem- based, collaborative learning/work or performance-geared solution.

EDID6507-Needs Assessment for Learning and Performance 
This course allows students to analyse learning and performance needs using a guided framework. This will include the creation of assessment instruments, collection and evaluation of data, and the provision of instructional and non-instructional interventions/recommendations.

EDID6510-Learning & Knowledge Management Systems
This course allows students to create, save, manage and retrieve digital assets in Learning Management Systems (LMS) and Content Management Systems (CMS) using a variety of e‐learning standards and specifications.

EDID6511-Facilitating and Managing Learning
This course provides students the opportunity to demonstrate different facilitation strategies based on context, learning outcomes, the content and learner characteristics.

EDLS6507-Research Methods Course 
Upon completion of this course, students should be able to define a research question, select an appropriate research methodology, produce a research proposal, analyze research data and produce a research report.
